Jamal Roberts (born November 6, 1997) is an American singer from Meridian, Mississippi. He won American Idol Season 23 on May 18, 2025. Roberts is the father of three daughters. He also works as a P.E. coach at Crestwood Elementary School in Meridian, Mississippi. He says being a father is “the best thing that ever happened” to him.
He started singing in church and also plays the drums. His grandparents encouraged him to perform because they saw his talent. His paternal grandfather was a bishop and his maternal grandfather was a deacon. In 2020, Jamal Roberts competed on Sunday Best, a BET gospel music competition, and finished in the top three.
