About Triumph Band
Triumph is a Canadian hard rock band that started in 1975. They became very popular in the late 1970s and 1980s, especially for their powerful live performances. Across their 16 albums and DVDs, they have earned 18 gold and 9 platinum awards in Canada and the United States.
Band was nominated for several Juno Awards, including “Group of the Year” in 1979, 1985, 1986, and 1987. The band has been honored many times, being inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame in 2007, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2019.
Triumph is best known for guitar-heavy rock songs like “Lay It on the Line,” “Magic Power,” “Fight the Good Fight,” and “World of Fantasy.” They first gained attention with strong cover songs such as “Rocky Mountain Way.”
The band was formed in Toronto, and the classic lineup included Rik Emmett (guitar and vocals), Mike Levine (bass and keyboards), and Gil Moore (drums and vocals). This group made the band’s first nine studio albums. In 1988, Emmett left to start a solo career, and Phil “X” Xenedis joined the band. Triumph released their final album so far, Edge of Excess, before going on hiatus in 1993.
The original members reunited for two live shows in 2008 at Sweden Rock Festival and Rocklahoma, and again in 2019 for a short three-song performance in Toronto. In 2025, Triumph reunited once more to perform at the Stanley Cup Final— their first public show in 17 years. The band will go on their first major tour in more than 30 years in 2026.
